Welcome!
Hello and welcome to my webpage! You might be seeking counselling for problems that you are experiencing, or perhaps a child / teenager you know is experiencing?
I can help you to 1) move past difficult times and struggles; 2) gain better control of your life and develop insight; 3) make sense of your life; 4) reduce anxiety and depression; 5) reduce negative behaviours; 6) improve well-being and self-awareness; 7) make strategies for going forward.
I will listen and gently ask questions that will improve your, or your child's self-awareness and help overcome pressing difficulties. Being listened to deeply in a non-judgemental space is a powerful tool; the theoretical models that I mainly use are Person Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic theory, Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Late childhood and the teenage years are often riddled with anxiety and self-doubt. Some of the issues commonly present in these age groups can be related to: divorce, peer groups, friendships, sexuality & gender, self-image and self-worth. Sometimes this leads to a range of behaviours and mental health concerns within the family or social setting.
I can show that there are different ways of understanding ourselves and our world. Counselling empowers us to be in touch with our emotions, aware of ourselves and capable of change. From this we can learn, we can reduce old patterns of behaviour, and we can flourish!
There is good evidence showing that online video calling and telephone therapy can be as effective as traditional therapy. (Given the current Covid19 pandemic it also reduces the need for the client to take journeys to and from therapy.) At present I am only working online via video calling platforms (on Zoom, Whatsapp etc), or via telephone. I also offer email counselling if this is more comfortable for the client (please email for further details).
I hold a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology (MSc.) which I gained after completing a Psychology Postgraduate Diploma (Pg.Dip) at the University of Nottingham. I have worked extensively as a counsellor in schools and charities for adults and children with mental health concerns. I have updated my training at the New School of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and by receiving frequent clinical supervision alongside my practise.
I have a rich experience working with previous clients and have worked with most issues. The presenting issues I have worked with have included but are not exhausted to the following:
I presently only work online or via telephone (for example, ‘Zoom’) I can adapt my services to suit the needs of the client; for example, if two 25 minutes sessions are preferred, as opposed to one 50-minute session.
Writing to me does not commit you to therapy.
